Your Work
At Korotu, we believe great work happens when you have the freedom to be yourself. Our team is mostly remote, which means you have the flexibility to work from wherever you're most productive.
We're big on collaboration, so we stay connected through our favorite digital tools and get together in person for team hangouts.
You won't be siloed on a single, minor task. We organize ourselves into small, agile product and project teams. This means you’ll get to know your colleagues and have a voice from day one. You'll work closely with a core group of developers, designers, and business leads.
As part of a project-specific team, you'll contribute to high-impact work that directly relates to our mission. This could involve developing tools for monitoring ecosystem health, helping to build a data model for climate risk analysis, or designing user-friendly interfaces for Indigenous-led conservation groups. You won't just be an observer; you'll be a core part of the team, tackling real-world challenges that help us build a more resilient world.
Q&A
We know you've got questions about what it's like to work at a purpose-driven tech startup. Here are some of the most common questions that come up, with honest answers.
We're always on the lookout for bright, passionate students to join us as co-op students and interns. We typically hire for a few key roles:
Software Development/Engineering: Building our core platforms.
Data Science/Analysis: Analyzing environmental data for our projects.
Marketing Analyst: Driving research-based growth and our client base.
UI/UX Design: Crafting user-friendly experiences for our clients.
GIS Analyst: Sourcing and analyzing geospatial data to create impactful maps.
We work closely with select partner universities—University of Waterloo, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McMaster, and the University of Guelph. If you're a student at one of these schools, be sure to check your job portal for our latest openings! Our co-op and internship terms typically last from 8 to 12 months. We're proud to say that many of our students come back for a second placement, and some even join us in a permanent role after they graduate.
It’s relatively simple for the co-op and internship roles:
Online Application: All students must apply on the partner university job portal (see question What types of roles do you hire for? for the list of our partner universities). Submit your resume and transcript. The cover letter is OPTIONAL. We might also ask for a sample of your writing.
Video interview: A 30-45 video call with our CEO to discuss the culture fit, motivation, technical and soft skills. You will be asked some competency based questions.
Reference check: We might also ask for references after the interview.
We aim to provide a decision within two weeks of the final interview.
Absolutely. While tech is at our core, we're a mission-driven company looking for people with diverse skills and backgrounds. If you're passionate about what we do and can demonstrate relevant skills from your field, we encourage you to apply.
We look for students who are curious and creative, with a knack for problem-solving and eager to question the status quo. Because we're a small, collaborative team, strong communication and time management skills are essential. We want people who are passionate about our mission, aligned with our values and ready to jump in and contribute from day one.

Yes! We view our co-op and internship programs as our talent pipeline. High-performing students are often offered full-time roles with us after they graduate.
Many companies use tech, but at Korotu, it's a tool for a bigger purpose: protecting our planet. We're a small, agile team where your work will have a direct, tangible impact on real-world problems.
